Einige Kandidaten, allen voran John Edwards, gehen sehr mit der Zeit und setzen immer mehr auch auf Internet-Medien wie Blogs, etc.. Und da der Wahlkampf ja noch zwei Jahre dauert, kann sich in der Hinsicht auch noch einiges ändern …

The announcements are an insight into how campaigns are adapting to the pressures of the Internet, the demands of fund-raising, the broad range of avenues for reaching voters and mobilizing supporters, and the particular dynamics of the ’08 campaign, crowded with candidates, many of them celebrities.Most strikingly, the announcements are being made extraordinarily early. In the 1992 cycle, Bill Clinton did not formally announce his candidacy until October 1991, three months before the Iowa caucus.

Auch in anderer Hinsicht werden diese Wahlen 2008 etwas speziell und sehr interessant sein, denn zum ersten Mal seit 1928 ist es eine völlig offene Wahl, d.h. weder der aktuelle Präsident noch der Vize-Präsident kandidiert (das wegen dem Vize kann sich natürlich theoretisch noch ändern: Dick Cheney könnte zurücktreten und jemand anderes an seine Stelle treten, aber das wäre dann wohl schon fast Teil des Wahlkampfs …).
